Dear John,

You hardly ever hear politicians use the word “love”.

You almost never see them struggle with their emotions on camera.

And you rarely see them simply listening, with empathy and warmth.

The film that went out last night on the BBC and ITV showed all of these things.

It showed Ed Davey as he truly is: a decent man, with an extraordinary story, who is deeply motivated by love and care for other people.

John, the reaction to this film has been overwhelming.

It is restoring people’s faith in politics.
