From Puerto Rico to Congo: Reimagining Energy without Extraction

Hello John,

For far too long, power companies with their executives and shareholders have neglected our communities: they’ve failed to keep the power on during intensified climate disasters, they have mined our homelands under the guise of “green technology”, and they have deemed communities sacrifice zones in the race to “electrify everything”.

At every turn, centralized power companies and authorities put profits over people, planet, and the quality of service they provide. And we face a contradiction in the climate movement; these same actors have tapped renewable energy as a tool against our communities.
But we know it doesn’t have to be this way.

Join us for an exciting conversation with activists from across the globe on June 25th ([link removed]) who agree: we must be empowered to make our own decisions about the source, cost, and reliability of energy, instead of allowing corporations to profit off of something we need to survive and thrive.

Featuring:
* Diana Santi Santiago, Nos Inundan de Placas (Puerto Rico)
* Maurice Carney, Friends of The Congo (US & The Congo)
* Alysha Shaw, Public Power New Mexico (New Mexico)

We’re looking beyond renewable energy to reimagine a people powered energy futures, with international speakers who show us how communities that are impacted first and worst by corporate greed and the climate crisis are rising up to advance systems that support our health and well-being.
