Direct interpreter contracting starts July 1
During the 2024 legislative session, OAH received authority to contract directly with interpreters certified by the Minnesota Supreme Court.
Update
OAH is moving forward with direct interpreter contracting. Last week, we invited all interpreters on the Minnesota Supreme Court’s Interpreter Roster to contract with OAH. So far, 37 interpreters have responded indicating an interest in contracting.
The new contracts will begin July 1. We know there will be lots of questions as we begin hiring interpreters directly. If you have a question, please reply to this email. We will track common questions and distribute the answers in a future message.
Reminder: Timely requests and cancellations
Recently, we have noticed a higher number of late interpreter requests. Several proceedings have been continued at the last minute simply because we were unable to get an interpreter in time. If you need an interpreter for a proceeding, please request one two weeks in advance whenever possible.
If you determine that an interpreter is no longer needed for a proceeding, or if a proceeding needs to be canceled, please notify OAH immediately so that we may cancel the interpreter request.
How you can help
If you have relationships with interpreters who would be particularly good folks for OAH to contract with, please encourage them to review the contract and register.
If you have questions or feedback, please reply to this email.
