Did you get a chance to read my previous email?

My name is David Olson, you may have seen my recent interview with Shift WA about my candidacy for Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction. With over a decade of experience serving as a member of the Peninsula School District Board of Directors, I am on a mission to find solutions to the biggest problems facing our K-12 public schools.

For parents with kids in schools (and anyone else concerned with the condition of K-12 public schools), I hope you will take a moment to read the email forwarded below.

Best,

David

I know that the condition of K-12 education is a critical issue for working families across our state – fortunately, this election cycle, we have a real opportunity to repair much of the damage done in recent years.
David Olson for Superintendent of Public Instruction

Friends,

My name is David Olson. You may have seen my recent “Newsmaker Interview” with Shift WA. But, if you haven’t, I hope you will allow me to take a quick moment and share why I am running for Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

As a dedicated member of the Peninsula School District Board of Directors for over a decade, I’ve worked hard to bring positive change to public schools in my district. Now I’m on a mission to improve K-12 education across our state. Here's a glimpse of my vision and priorities:

Why I'm Running: I am motivated by deep concerns about the current administration under Chris Reykdal and the need for a more collaborative relationship between the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and local school boards. OSPI should support our locally elected school boards – not dictate to them – because they know what’s best for their community.

Top Priorities: My goals include pushing for fair funding, getting parents back involved with curriculum, fully supporting special education, and addressing chronic absenteeism by engaging parents and communities more effectively. But more than anything else, I want to refocus our schools on teaching kids how to read and write and pass their math classes.

Overcoming Challenges: We need strong leadership at OSPI. I advocate for a return to rigorous, science-based curricula and giving more control back to local school boards.

Successful Policies: In my district, we successfully banned social media and cell phones in schools, leading to less stress and better engagement among students. I aim to replicate such successes statewide.

I know that the condition of K-12 education is a critical issue for working families across our state – fortunately, this election cycle, we have a real opportunity to repair much of the damage done in recent years.

This campaign is about making a real difference for our state's children and their future. To achieve this, I am reaching out to ask for your financial support.
