Absolutely nothing is more important to me than keeping our kids safe.

That’s why I am fighting the epidemic of despair today’s youth are facing, caused by the harmful effects of social media.

Last fall, I unveiled two major pieces of legislation to protect kids from personal data collection and addictive feeds.

These laws would protect kids from the addictive impacts of social media, as well as protect their data from mega-corporations collecting information and precious data.

I recently wrote an op-ed in the New York Post about this topic. I’ve met countless young people in New York who spoke of the harmful impacts of social media on their mental health. This crisis is real and needs to be addressed. Inaction is not an option.

Social media was meant to connect us to friends, in a way that brought us closer to one another.

Instead, platforms have become media machines — collecting data on users and curating addictive algorithmic feeds designed to keep people scrolling as long as possible.

Often the most engaging content is psychologically damaging, and it’s hurting our young people…

Hearing countless stories from young people, mental-health professionals, and educators across the state have reinforced my commitment to getting this done.

I’m taking bold action in New York to protect our kids. The evidence is clear, and we can’t afford to wait to do something about the mental health crisis impacting our children and grandchildren.
