John,

Everywhere I look these past few weeks, I’m inspired by our community coming together and standing strong as we move through this challenging time. Of course, we have our medical professionals working tirelessly on the frontlines of this crisis and demonstrating selfless devotion to their work and to humanity. But even the simple act of staying home, or of donating blood if you can, is essential right now.

In that spirit, I want to take a moment today to spotlight an organization that’s very special to me -- Eloise’s Cooking Pot Food Bank. I love this organization and its mission, and not just because it’s a two-minute drive from my home. This wonderful community of helpers is working around the clock to keep some of our most vulnerable friends and neighbors in Pierce County fed with curbside and walk-up service while also providing (when they can) everything from dog and cat food to wipes and books.

Food banks are a critical community service even in the best of times, providing high-quality meals to food-insecure people, including the elderly, children who rely on school lunch, and low-income families. I know I’m stating the obvious, but right now, demand for food and essential household goods far outweighs supply, and food banks like Eloise’s Cooking Pot could use our help.

If you’re able to help, you can make a donation ([link removed]) to the Making a Difference Foundation that runs Eloise’s. And if you’re an essential healthcare worker on the frontline of this crisis, you can sign up for home delivery of fresh groceries here ([link removed]). I’m volunteering every week to make some of those home deliveries, and I’m looking forward to sharing more with you about that experience in the weeks ahead.

Thank you for everything you do for our community. Stay safe,

Phil
