Previous recipients of the Poynter Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism include Anderson Cooper, Carl Bernstein, Bob Woodward, Lesley Stahl, Chris Wallace, Katie Couric, Lester Holt, Judy Woodruff, Tom Brokaw and Bob Schieffer.

Philadelphia is home to Brian Tierney ([link removed]) , vice chair of The Poynter Foundation Inc. Tierney and his team at Brian Communications ([link removed]) recently hosted Poynter’s president Neil Brown ([link removed]) and chief development officer Deborah Read ([link removed]) and provided opportunities to meet with executives at Philly’s top companies. The visit concluded with a reception on the rooftop of the iconic, landmark building that houses Brian Communications. A special thanks to Brian and his colleague, McKenna Young ([link removed]) , for their tireless efforts in support of Poynter.
Journalism’s leaders come to Poynter for training

Poynter recently welcomed 30 women into the Leadership Academy for Women in Media in May at our headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida. The women are from 14 different states and three countries. (Photo by Chris Kozlowski)
It’s always inspiring to share updates from our Leadership Academy for Women in Media ([link removed]) . In May, we welcomed our second cohort to Poynter ([link removed]) this year. A previous cohort met in March ([link removed]) and another will convene in September. Participants for all three groups were selected at the same time and placed into a specific cohort designed to generate rich and diverse group dynamics. Including these 30 participants, Poynter will train more than 90 newsroom leaders through this transformative program in 2024, and increase the alumni network for this program to more than 600.
Over the course of their week with us in May, these women strengthened their leadership skills and connected deeply with each other.
“The leadership academy has evolved in scope over close to a decade, but one thing remains the same,” academy directorKate Cox ([link removed]) said. “Every incoming cohort is a real-time reflection of how healthy newsrooms are, what they need, and how well they’re serving their audiences right now.”
If you’d like to make a contribution ([link removed]) to help a journalist take the program, please go to poynter.org/give and reference the Women’s Leadership program in the notes field. If you’d like to send a check, reply to this email.
