Dear John,
As Jews around the world celebrate Passover and remember when our ancestors were
strangers in a foreign land, it’s more important than ever to consider the
difficulties facing refugees right now.
COVID-19 has been devastating for communities all over the world but especially
for the refugees and asylum seekers trapped in crowded camps, at closed borders
and in detention centers – places where it can be nearly impossible to protect
themselves and others through social distancing.
And with most cut off completely from income sources, living in countries with
already compromised health and sanitation systems, refugees and asylum seekers
are more vulnerable than we can imagine.
HIAS is working tirelessly in the U.S. and 15 countries around the world to
provide refugees with the food, sanitation and medical assistance they need to
stay safe during this pandemic. And with the outbreak spreading quickly, the
lifesaving work we do for refugees has never been more urgent. That’s why we’re
asking you, if you are able, to help us reach our $100,000 goal by midnight to
support refugees and asylum seekers:
Please, consider a contribution of $18 to help us provide
refugees and asylum seekers with the crucial support they need to weather this
global health crisis.

In the midst of the global health crisis, HIAS is on the front lines, providing
emergency relief, legal assistance and counseling services to refugees and
asylum seekers. Both at home and abroad, we’re doing everything we can to
welcome newly arrived refugees, file petitions against detention and advocate
for safer living conditions for as many families as we can.
As we reflect on our shared Jewish values and traditions this Passover, we’re
also keeping in mind the millions of refugees and asylum seekers who have left
everything behind in their search for safety and who need our support now. We
set a goal to raise $100,000 by tonight – anything you’re able to give makes a
tremendous difference in our lifesaving work.
Make a gift of $18, or anything you can today – every
dollar helps us support refugees and asylum seekers as they rebuild their lives
in freedom from violence and persecution.

We are truly beyond grateful for your support. Thank you for stepping up to help
refugees during this difficult time.
