John --
Since 2018, I made a promise to our community: to repair the crumbling infrastructure of our train stations. As of Tuesday, that promise is closer to becoming a reality! The federal government matched the 20 plus million dollars I secured at the state level with the help of other coalition members such as Mayor Ted R. Green, Naiima H Fauntleroy, Justin Braz, NJT, and the seasoned citizens in our community.
On the federal level, a historic piece of legislation co-authored by my friend, the late Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. titled the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill— allocated 83 million dollars more as a match. In partnership with my dear friend, who during his time in Congress was the Senior Democrat on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Rail. He introduced the INVEST in America Act, which became the bipartisan, $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
Together, we worked tirelessly on this community need. This feels like a dream come true. The only thing that could have been better is if he was there standing with us. I wore his pin to honor him. Let’s stay proactive and continue repairing our infrastructure before any tragedies occur, there is more work to be done.
