It happened: Justice finally came for Donald Trump.

A jury of every day Americans rendered a guilty verdict for a man who, in the midst of running for President of the United States during a national election, illegally funneled through his FEC expenditures to his lawyer a $130,000 payment to a former porn star in exchange for her silence about an affair she had with him in 2006.

While this verdict is a reason to celebrate democracy and the rule of law, far too many of our fellow Americans would prefer to see our system of fairness and equal justice under law cast aside for something radically different. People like my opponent Jim Jordan would prefer a one-sided winner-takes-all system that protects the rich and powerful from the wrongs they commit—so long as they agree with him politically and vow fealty to Donald Trump.

America is truly at a crossroads, and dangerous people like Jim Jordan are attempting to hijack the course of our history (the “moral arc of the universe” of which Dr. King spoke, that “bends toward justice”) and turn us back to the days when only men like him were in charge and allowed to make decisions. In those days, disputes were settled not with fairness and the rule of law, but with force.

This is how fascism is stopped. People coming together and seeing the gravity of the situation we are in and saying no. By millions of us standing up and refusing to allow Trump, Jordan, and the MAGA mob to destroy what makes America great: that no one is above the law.
