[1]Sarah McBride - Democrat for Congress
Happy Pride Month,
team!
I’ve always said that I’m not running for Congress to make history, I’m
running to make a difference. But as we enter Pride Month, I have been
reflecting a little bit about what it would mean to be the first openly
trans member of Congress and the importance of this race for young LGBTQ+
people who deserve to see themselves in government, too.
Truthfully, it’s only fair that when issues directly impacting trans folks
are being discussed, trans people have a seat – at least one – at the
table. I’m humbled at the thought that I may be the first to hold a seat
in Congress, but I’m absolutely sure I won’t be the last.
From the start of this campaign, I’ve also said I don’t want to be known
just for my identity. I want to be known as an effective member of
Congress working on all of the issues that matter to everyone. And that
includes our LGBTQ+ neighbors.
So yes, I’ll absolutely be fighting to protect and secure the rights of
LGBTQ+ people all over the country.
But LGBTQ+ people care about things like health care, the economy, paid
family and medical leave, and raising the minimum wage as well — and I’ll
be fighting just as hard to improve life for everyone on those fronts,
too.
