Hi John,

We wanted to make sure you saw our urgent message from earlier about Fox News’ war on the justice system following Donald Trump's conviction.

You can read more about Fox’s smears below, but right now, we need your help so our ten battleground state newsrooms can keep fighting to protect our democracy from their dangerous misinformation.

Can you chip in $15 now to power our work and help us reach our $25,000 goal before midnight? [[link removed]]

Thanks,
COURIER

John –

It’s official. The jury has spoken, justice was served, and Donald Trump is guilty on 34 felony counts in his New York criminal trial.

We’ll tell you how Fox News responded and why it matters in a moment, but we have a rapid goal of $5,000 to reach before midnight tonight to hit our May fundraising goal. Can you chip in $15 now? [[link removed]]

Fox News has been planting seeds to claim the trial was politically motivated since the beginning. For example, in the early days of the trial, Fox News guests and personalities baselessly claimed at least 89 times that the jury selection process was rigged against President Trump.

When the guilty verdict came in, things got downright dark:

*Primetime host Jesse Waters talked about his anger about the verdict, promising to “vanquish the evil forces that are destroying this republic.”
* Personality Jeanine Pirro suggested that Americans could react violently to the verdict because we are “fighters” and “revolution is in our DNA.”
* Fox News host Greg Gutfeld called the trial and the verdict a “conscious collusion of allies that came together with a private strategy to eliminate a common, shared adversary.”
* Laura Ingraham called on viewers to “turn this dark day into a time to recommit yourself to saving America from these vindictive, far-left tyrants.”

We could go on and on, but you get the point: Fox News is doing everything it can to prop up Trump, including turning its viewers against our judicial system by using incendiary rhetoric and baseless smears.

So Fox News is being Fox News, so what?

First, we are a nation of laws, not of men. By smearing our judicial system as political and corrupt, Fox News is laying the groundwork for the authoritarian presidency that Trump is promising in his second term.

Second, Fox’s lies have a way of becoming the unimpeachable truth for millions of Americans. Thanks to Fox News and Trump, more than half of Republican voters now believe Democrats stole the 2020 election, even though there is zero evidence to support this claim.

Third, and most alarmingly, we’ve already seen political violence as a direct consequence of Fox’s pro-Trump rage-baiting and conspiracies. There would be no January 6th, 2021, without Fox News. They spread the lies that directly led to the assault on our Capitol.

So that’s the bad news – the good news is that COURIER is doing something to fight back. Right now, our ten battleground state newsrooms are working around the clock to correct right-wing misinformation from Fox News.

We post our trustworthy local news coverage in the same social media feeds and email inboxes where people are most likely to encounter Fox News and Donald Trump’s lies.

We also make all our news free to battleground state communities where misinformation could impact November’s election.

But to continue making our service accessible to those who need it most, we need your help. To continue supporting our newsrooms, we must raise $5,000 by midnight tonight to reach our May fundraising goal. Can you chip in $15 now? [[link removed]]
