Happy Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month!

 

To conclude our AAPI Leader Profile series, we’re celebrating our current Vice President, Kamala Harris.

 

Vice President Harris’ political tenure has been marked by firsts and breaking down barriers. Among other historic firsts, she was the first South Asian American to serve in the U.S. Senate, as well as the first Asian-American vice president.

 

Since becoming VP, Harris has focused a significant amount of her work on the needs of the youth in our country. Last fall, she brought thousands of students together on college campuses nationwide to discuss and make progress on: 

 

  • Reproductive freedom;

  • Common sense gun safety laws;

  • Sustainability and climate action on campus;

  • LGBTQ+ equality;

  • Book bans and the importance of teaching America’s full history.

While there is still more to be done, VP Harris’ commitment to engaging with young people who are directly affected by Republican-led attacks on fundamental rights is imperative to making the progressive change that our generation is fighting for across the nation.
