Fixtures can be the star of the show or work in harmony with architecture and furnishings to strike the right balance of scale, style, and mood. Jill Waage of Lighting magazine by Traditional Home talks about some of the latest lighting design trends in a video from the American Lighting Association. One popular trend is the use of natural materials in lighting fixtures. As Jill explains, biophilic designs are big for both formal and casual settings. Look for the organic shapes of leaves and flowers to provide a relaxing mood to a design plan. Natural materials are important, too, including woven grasses, stone, gesso, beads, leather, and glass crafted with movement and texture. Uttermost Outdoor lighting continues to grow with larger-scale fixtures, the popularity of ceiling fans, and a greater emphasis on outdoor dining areas. The end goal: Extend the time enjoyed outside well into the evening hours with a magical glow. Fredrick Ramond Also strong are pastel glass shades, and look for bolder colors including jewel-tone greens, blues, purples, and amber. White is hot too, either mixed with metals— or in a matte finish for a casual vibe. Not to be forgotten, classic is cool again with traditional design principles bringing heart and soul back into modern homes.
