John,
To start your June on a (mostly) high note, we're dropping a line with an update and an exciting opportunity!
THE UPDATE: Governor Kelly just announced a special legislative session set to begin on June 18.
While the session is supposed to focus on passing a tax plan, the legislature is free to explore other legislation. We’re monitoring to make sure any attempts to pass new abortion restrictions meets fierce resistance. Stay tuned for more.
THE OPPORTUNITY: Johnson County organizers invite you - yes, you! - to contribute to their forthcoming book, Voices of the Free State.
The book wil l be a collection of essays, poetry, art, and more, all centered on winning the fight for abortion rights on August 2, 2022. To submit, follow the instructions at bit.ly/freestatestory by June 9.
Take care and happy writing!

P.S. ICYMI: Last week, abortion providers in Kansas filed a lawsuit challenging the new law that mandates abortion patients be asked invasive questions about their reasons for getting an abortion, and that those answers be registered in a state database. The law will go into effect on July 1 unless it’s blocked in court.
