Hello and welcome to my election update!
We're a week into the campaign, and the choice in this election could not be clearer.
A Conservative Party that has completely run out of road, resorting to throwing out gimmick policies in a desperate attempt to cling to power.
Or a changed Labour Party, with a plan to change our country.
We've hit the ground running with our campaign here in Gorton & Denton, and I want to thank all those who have been out to help so far.
If you want to muck in between now and polling day, you can get in touch by emailing [email protected].
I look forward to seeing you out on the doors soon!

Elections are many things, but one thing they are not is cheap.
Leaflets, posters, gardens stakes, social media advertisements, there is so much that goes into a successful campaign, and that cannot be done without funds.
We know the Tories have gamed the system, massively increasing spending limits so their billionaire donors can throw even more money at their failed party.
If we are to win this election, we need to fight them all the way.
So, anything you can spare, big or small, will all go into our campaign battle fund, helping beat the Tories so we can change our country.

A huge thank you to all who came out to support my 2024 General Election campaign launch at the Pakistani Community Centre in Longsight this afternoon.
We now hit the streets of Gorton and Denton, Burnage, Longsight and Levenshulme to make the case for a better, fairer, more equal society at home, and for a country that stands tall in the world to defend human rights and the rule of law.
I will always seek to serve the new constituency in the way I’ve sought to serve the old Denton and Reddish seat for 19 years: putting you first and demanding a fair deal for our community.
It’s time for hope.
It’s time to get Britain’s future back.
It’s time for change.
It’s time for Labour.

After 14 years of Conservative rule, our NHS is in crisis.
We've laid out the fully funded, fully costed first steps a Labour Government would take to start building an NHS fit for the future.

A new developer has purchased Bredbury Parkway, putting a proposed development out to consultation.
The proposal put forward by the previous developer, which was declined, (as was their appeal) would have wrecked the Tame Valley, ruined the ambience of Haughton Dale, and seen heavy goods traffic jam up Denton’s roads.
I’ll be working with Team Denton South Councillors Claire Reid, George Newton and Jack Naylor to ensure the threat to our Tame Valley is removed once again.

Thank you to my good friend and neighbour Afzal Khan MP for all his help and support since my selection as the Labour candidate for Gorton & Denton, his endorsement really does mean the world.
Following in his and Sir Gerald Kaufman's footsteps as the MP for Gorton & Abbey Hey, Burnage, Levenshulme, and Longsight will be no small feat, and I hope I can do them proud in this election.

A big thank you to Councillor Suzanne Richards for taking me to meet up with Eve, Judy & Chloe and see the amazing work in their Longsight alleyway. They’re doing fabulous work to help reduce dumping and make the space a clean, green haven.
The City Council and Great Places have been supporting the residents on this scheme, and Biffa have just awarded them some funding too!
Then I popped in to the Northmoor Road Hub based in the old Co-op building to see some of the fantastic community outreach work they do there. Brilliant!
Then I was invited to meet the Imam and Management Committee to look at the beautiful new mosque being built for Makki Masjid on Beresford Road in Longsight. They were keen to show me the new building and explain the plans they have for extended community use of their current home next door. Thanks for the discussions, tour, hospitality and the kindness shown.
Then off to the first canvassing session of the 2024 General Election in Levenshulme. We had a great team of activists out with us and covered a fair bit of ground. We had lots of conversations and we picked up a lot of support for Labour!
And finally, thanks to Councillors Abid Chohan, Zahid Hussain and D'zidra Noor for taking me to some of Levenshulme’s brilliant businesses. This is a vibrant district centre with some great places to shop, eat and drink. Thank you to the guys at Red Cherry for the amazing food, to Dubai Bakery for the amazing bread, and to Lahori Sawad for Lyle’s ice cream!
A busy, exhilarating but thoroughly enjoyable day!!!

What a lovely morning meeting Claire and the volunteers at The Orchard Project by SNUG MCR in Crowcroft Park, Longsight, and helping to plant some fruit bushes while I’m here.
The project has transformed a redundant bowling green into a wildlife haven. There’s a pond, wildflower meadows, herb and produce patches and lots of fruit trees. The biodiversity they’ve introduced to the site is incredible, and what a peaceful oasis they’ve created for residents.
I’m looking forward to coming back (and getting my hands even muckier next time). Thanks for having me!

Thank you to all those who came out on the doors with us this week, it was great to hear such a positive response right across the constituency, with lots of people enthusiastic about the difference a Labour MP, working with a Labour Government, can make for our communities!
We'll be out every day between now and polling day, and I look forward to seeing many of you out and about across Gorton, Denton, Longsight, Levenshulme, and Burnage in the coming weeks.
