Week 1 Roundup |
Our highlights from the first week on the campaign trail |
Campaign launch |
The campaign started with a bang on Sunday as Ed launched our national campaign in Cambridgeshire. Surrounded by supporters and showered by gold confetti, Ed unveiled Yellow Hammer 1, the Lib Dem battle bus. |

Saving the NHS |
At the launch, Ed pledged that a vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to save the NHS. People are waiting hours for ambulances, weeks for GP appointments, and months for cancer treatment - our field teams are telling us it’s consistently the top issue coming up on the doorstep.
We’ve also announced our GP Guarantee plan to hire 8,000 more GPs over five years, ensuring patients can see their GP within seven days, or 24 hours if urgent. |

Ending sewage dumping |
On Tuesday, Ed visited Lake Windermere to highlight the environmental devastation caused by sewage dumping. The Conservatives have allowed water companies to pollute our precious waters, including at this idyllic spot.
In contrast, we will hold water companies to account. This week, we pledged to place environmental experts on all water company boards, as part of our plan to end sewage dumping for good. |

Backing British farming |
Empowering rural communities was key to Ed’s message in Wales and Somerset.
British farmers have faced years of Conservative neglect and it’s time they got the respect and support they deserve.
Our fair deal for farmers includes a £1 billion boost to the farming budget and fixing botched trade deals. |

Children's mental health |
Childhood should be a time of happiness and new experiences, just as Ed enjoyed on the slip ‘n’ slide on Thursday.
But many children are being held back by poor mental health.
That’s why we’re calling for a mental health professional in every primary and secondary school, funded by tripling the tax on social media giants. |

Free school meals |
At the end of week one, Ed promoted free school meals while baking with local school children.
Free school meals save parents money, boost healthy eating and support children's learning.
We will extend free school meals to all primary school children, beginning with all primary and secondary school children in poverty, funded by a 4% levy on the share buybacks of FTSE 100 companies. |
