Festival Oldham 2024: A day of fun and celebration

Join us on Saturday 1 June, from 12noon to 4pm in Oldham town centre for Festival Oldham 2024. This exciting event will have over 100 artists and performers putting on free shows, performances, installations, and creative activities all over town. We're also celebrating Oldham's 175th anniversary with special themed activities.

This year, we're introducing the Live Music Network Stage, featuring great local bands like Millie Milner & the Dead Names, Mercy Kelly, and our headliners, Heavy Salad. Heavy Salad, formed in Manchester in 2018, mixes different music styles like surf rock and punk funk for a unique sound.

Important updates ahead of the UK General Elections
 
As we get ready for the UK General Elections on Thursday 4 July 2024, we want to make sure you know about some important changes to the voting process in Oldham.
 
Registering to vote: It's quick and easy to register to vote online, and it only takes five minutes. You'll need your National Insurance number. Remember, if you've recently moved, you must register again. The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday 18 June, don't miss your chance to vote.[Learn more and register here]([link removed])
 
Photo ID requirement: This election requires you to show a photo ID when voting in person. If you don't have photo ID, you can apply for a free Voter Certificate. The application process is quick and easy, and the deadline is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June. [Apply for a Voter Authority Certificate]([link removed])

Ocean Drifters at Gallery Oldham
 
Step into our magical underwater kingdom, filled with jellyfish and coral. Jellyfish have been drifting through the oceans for millions of years, even before the dinosaurs. You can find them in the deepest parts of the ocean and shallow tropical waters.
 
Now open at Gallery Oldham, relax among the tentacles and coral, learn interesting facts about sea creatures and the oceans in our reading area, or take a photo of yourself as a jellyfish. The jellyfish are gentle and don’t mind being touched—just be careful with them.
 
Also, don't miss our special event on Wednesday 21 August at 2pm, where you can make an underwater-themed balloon model inspired by the exhibition.

Be part of Tour of Britain Women 2024 in Oldham
 
Get ready for an exciting event on Sunday 9 June 2024, as Oldham hosts the Tour of Britain Women 2024, bringing top cyclists to our streets.
 
Come out and show support as the race passes through Failsworth, Oldham town centre, Saddleworth, and Shaw. Check out the [full route here]([link removed])
 
Oldham, as part of Greater Manchester's title as the first European Capital of Cycling for 2024, will host stage four of the race. Watch as elite female riders cover 99km and 1,615m of elevation, with the winner decided at the end of this stage.
 
The race sets off at 11.15am from the National Cycling Centre in Manchester, with riders expected to cross the finish line in Leigh at approximately around 2pm.
 
This event will showcase Oldham to millions nationwide. Let's come together and celebrate this amazing event right here in our borough.
