Dear Friend, [link removed] [[link removed]]
This week, the Council took a first vote to approve next year's budget for the city. And while I secured a lot of Ward 6 wins for our neighborhoods, I also led the fight to keep DC an environmental and climate leader - cleaning our rivers, creating new green jobs, and taking action to fight climate change. That leadership, and that success, is at stake because the misguided recall effort wants to throw it all away.
They want you to believe their motivations are all about crime. But the truth, as Capitol Hill Corner reported [[link removed]] , is that they've eagerly cashed big checks from powerful oil, gas, and fossil fuel interests. Those deep pockets want to protect the status quo. That's what's at stake, and I need your help to join me and fight back by donating today!

Let's be honest. In local politics, fighting climate change may not fire people up the same way issues like education, crime, and even parking do. But the reality is that it will take local action to head off the worst impacts of climate change on our city. Here's what at stake on climate change if the recall is successful:
Changing the Game with the Healthy Homes Act...
As one example, let me tell you about the Healthy Homes Act, my bill that passed the Council unanimously this spring. Simply put, we need to electrify everything. If you'd told me a few years ago that upgrading every home to be more efficient and switch to electric was one of the biggest ways we can fight climate change, I'm not sure I would have believed you. But it's true. And my bill will now make that possible for 30,000 low- and moderate-income households, bringing local dollars to unlock federal ones.
The transition to renewables is happening all over Ward 6. Solar on rooftops. Induction stoves in kitchens. Heat pumps that heat and cool our homes. But thousands of DC residents can’t afford these clean energy upgrades and risk being left behind, and that threatens the city’s clean energy future. Or, as The New Republic wrote when I introduced the bill, Finally, a Gas Stove Proposal that Cares About Poor People [[link removed]] . [link removed] [[link removed]]
If you care about climate change, you want to join me in this fight.
If you care about cleaner air for our children to breathe, you want to join me in this fight.
If you care about putting equity into climate action, you want to join me in this fight.

… And I’m the leader on climate in the Wilson Building.
Tackling climate change isn’t a low-urgency burden. It’s a five-alarm crisis. It's also a tremendous economic opportunity that comes with cleaner air and healthier residents. As your Ward 6 Councilmember and the Chair of the Council's Committee on Transportation and the Environment, I know an electrified and clean energy future is an opportunity we can't miss.
Fight back with a donation right now. Forward this email to a neighbor who cares about leadership on climate. And get your neighbors involved.

Thanks so much for your support,

P.S. - People ask me how to help fight the recall all the time. One easy step? Forward this email to your neighbors who care about climate change. Because right now, the best thing you can do is spread the word and ask people to Decline to Sign the Recall Petition. Make sure people know there are paid, out-of-state signature gatherers going door-to-door and misleading voters about what they're really doing, and putting progress like Healthy Homes at-risk.
