Dear John,

Friends share important information with each other. So with general election campaigning now in full swing we want to share our rating of how the parties have scored on their green promises so far. It’d be great if you could share it with your friends too.

The next few weeks are crucial, so we’ll need your help to call on parties and candidates to support action for climate and nature.

Thank you to everyone who’s helped sound the alarm about our precious rivers and seas over the past few weeks – including Friends of the Earth Southampton pictured above. And the 50,000 of you who have already signed our public record of support ( [link removed] ) for a new law to protect us from sewage and other environmental harm.

With water pollution looking like a hot topic this election, the timing is perfect.

Our resident zoologist and campaigner, Sienna, has taken a look at some of the wildlife that’s suffering because of the deluge of sewage.

Imagining the future of our waterways

Episode 5 of our Imagining Tomorrow podcast with Emma Newman features the curious tale of a duck nesting on a balcony high above Salford Quays, and what it might mean for the future of our waterways.

Inspired by talking to the duckling rescuer, as well as the inventor of cutting-edge water monitoring equipment and an award-winning science fiction author, Emma imagines a future where communities help to keep waterways across the UK clean enough to swim in thanks to a nifty monitoring system.

We won in court. Again.

This month we defeated the government in the High Court over its unlawful climate plan – for the second time. But what exactly is wrong with it?

One of our lawyers, Niall Toru, explains why the climate plan wasn’t up to scratch and why it’s making headlines.

We'll need your help to make sure the new government delivers a better plan before the 2 May 2025 deadline ordered by the court.

WHY THE CLIMATE PLAN IS UNLAWFUL ( [link removed] )

Climate pledges secured with 8 newly elected mayors

Our local action groups and supporters secured climate pledges from 8 out of 10 metro mayors elected this month. Given the powers they have to take action on the climate and nature crises, that’s a phenomenal achievement.

This shows the power of collective action. Something it's great to remember with the general election on 4 July.

Confronting Unilever over harms in its supply chain

We’re campaigning for a new law to hold companies to account for the harm in their supply chains. Companies like Unilever – the makers of Dove soap and Pot Noodle – who use a palm oil supplier linked with land-grabbing and environmental destruction.

Unilever keeps promising action. But we think it's dragging its heels. So this month we turned up at its annual general meeting with members of one of the affected communities in Indonesia to tell their story in person.

Ready to march for nature in London on Saturday 22 June?

Britain is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, with 1 in 6 species at risk of extinction. This doesn’t just impact the birds and the bees. It impacts all of us too.

Join us at Park Lane from midday. We’ll march to Parliament Square, where we’ll hear from Chris Packham and others speaking about the political change we need to restore nature now. There’ll be family-friendly entertainment. It’ll be wheelchair accessible. And there’ll be a BSL interpreter.
