At 8pm last night, Nigel Farage appeared on BBC Question Time.

One of the most important political programmes in the country – just a month out from a general election – is platforming a divisive charlatan who isn’t even running for office. What’s happened to the BBC?

He sat alongside former Conservative Minister of State for schools Damian Hinds, Labour’s shadow health secretary Wes Streeting, Anglican Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin, and Piers Morgan.

Surely there were better alternatives? Gina Miller, leader of the True and Fair Party, for example, is standing for election in Epsom where the programme was being filmed. Would she not have a better claim to a place on the panel?

A functioning democracy relies on voters having accurate and impartial information to consider ahead of casting their votes. Farage is not interested in giving people such information. He’s only interested in perpetuating the lie that his extremist views are shared by the majority of ordinary people. The BBC should not be complicit in that.
