Dear Constituents,
As you know, the Prime Minister has called an election for Thursday 5th July 2024. I try to be a different kind of politician and make sure that I am out on the doorstep at least every week and hold regular surgeries right across the constituency. Now, I have a full month to continue this effort, meeting as many of you as possible.
📍 As of this evening, I will no longer be a Member of Parliament, as Parliament has been dissolved. My current constituency will be divided into two, and I am excited to stand for re-election as the Conservative Candidate for the new Melksham and Devizes constituency, where I live.
I have served as your Member of Parliament for over nine years, and I believe my track record speaks for itself. Here are some of the key achievements and commitments I have made to ensure I remain accessible and approachable:
🎪 Community Engagement: Each year, I have a stand at all the village, town, and school fetes that I can attend, making sure I am present and available to talk with you.
📚 Educational Outreach: I hold democracy workshops in local schools almost every week, helping to educate and engage young people in our democratic process.
🛒 Supermarket Stands: I regularly set up stands in supermarkets, making it easier for those who might not proactively contact their MP to reach out and receive help.
🗣️ Meet Michelle Events: These events are organised so that residents can meet me in person, share their concerns, and get assistance directly.
💬 Conventional Surgeries: Of course, I also hold traditional MP surgeries to address your needs.
🤛🏻🚪 Year-Round Door Knocking: I knock on doors all year round to stay connected with you and understand your concerns.
In the last year alone:
- I have handled over 10,000 pieces of casework.
- Responded to nearly 20,000 letters 📝 and emails 📧.
- Visited over 368 businesses, organisations, and community events.
To me, being an MP is about being visible, helping local groups and charities, improving our area, being a strong voice 📣 for our community, and seeking out those who need help rather sitting behind a desk waiting for them to come to me.
Here are some of the achievements I am particularly proud of:
✅I recently secured millions in funding which combined with recent Wiltshire Council funding will start to make a difference soon in fixing Wiltshire's roads.
✅ Hosted Wiltshire's largest Careers Fair for two years running, attended by over 1,000 local people.
✅ Secured funding for the UK's first business-led cyber centre in Spring 2022.
✅ Campaigning to upgrade Melksham Hospital.
✅ Campaigning to get better access to dentists.
✅ Working to stop the Lime Down Solar Farm.
✅ Reducing anti-social behaviour.
✅ Ensuring Wiltshire get more police officers - with 171 more bobbies on the beat.
✅ Championing our armed forces and veterans - such as securing an extra £75 billion over the next 6 years for our defence budget to help keep us all safe at home and supporting our brave service men and women.
✅ Securing more funding for Wiltshire Schools.
✅ Ensured your voice is always heard by being accessible and approachable, handling over 10,000 pieces of casework in the last year .... and so much more!
If you have any questions or would like to join me and my team, please do get in touch.
Best wishes,
Michelle Donelan
Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Melksham and Devizes.
