The DC Council introduced its proposed budget for fiscal year (FY) 2025 on Tuesday. The budget will direct billions of dollars of spending in DC's schools, construction projects, agency staffing, and more.
The Council's version of the budget restores funding for many key programs that the mayor proposed cutting. It includes proposals to shift $25.4 million from DCPS Central to schools; add $3.5 million for one additional teacher for each elementary school in Wards 7 and 8; $6 million in additional one-time funds for Emergency Rental Assistance; $1.8 million in additional one-time funds for homeless prevention services; and increase the universal paid leave contribution rate to 0.75%, generating an additional $76.1 million in FY 2025.
Councilmembers will debate the budget proposal today and are expected to take their first vote on it this week. Read more ?
