As your local Member of Parliament, I have worked hard to deliver improvements to our local community: we have created thousands of new jobs and apprenticeships, we have rebuilt and refurbished every single high school, and together, we have campaigned to protect our precious greenbelt from Labour’s housebuilding plans.Â
The General Election on 4th July will be a close one. I know that at election time, politicians are meant to make lots of promises and pledges. But I will make just one. The same promise I have made every time you have elected me as your local MP. I will do everything I can to work hard on the issues that matter most to you: more and better jobs, investment in our local schools, protecting our NHS, defending our greenbelt, fixing our roads and potholes, and tackling crime and anti-social behaviour across our community.Â
I won’t win every battle. But, as our local record shows, when we stick together, we can change our area for the better. Our campaign to improve our schools has been a success. Since I became our local MP, every high school across Tynedale and Ponteland has been rebuilt or refurbished, and we are now pushing ahead to improve every other school too.
I led the campaign in Ponteland over many years against Labour’s plans to build on our greenbelt with thousands of new houses. These plans were thankfully scrapped by the Conservative-run Council. However, the fight to protect our green open spaces is not yet over. Labour have made it clear they will concrete over our greenbelt and build thousands of houses on our precious green lungs around Hexham, Stocksfield and Ponteland. I will always fight to protect our local environment.Â
I won’t be making attacks on my opponents. This election is about the issues that matter to all of us. I will continue to campaign to make sure we get our fair share of new police officers on our streets, and fight for greater funding for our local NHS, which includes the £15m extra investment delivered to improve services at Hexham Hospital. My first political experience was fighting to save the hospital which saved my mother’s life from cancer. When I was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2011, it was only thanks to the incredible care I received from our NHS doctors and nurses that I am here today. The debt I owe our NHS will remain with me forever.
At this difficult time for our country, I believe it is more important than ever that we stick together locally. It will be my name on the ballot paper at this election. If you think I have been a good local MP I hope I can count on your support.
Yours,
Guy
