Hello Folks,
I hope everyone is ready to kick off the summer!
If you haven’t heard, we have officially suspended our campaign for the state house. A press release was sent out early last week. That said, we haven’t given up! Far from it. During the summer months, we’ll be “taking a knee” (to use a military term) to catch our breath and decide what is next.
I had intended to run for State Senate in 2026, but a few weeks ago, some of you made me rethink that decision. To test the waters I did a poll on Facebook asking our followers where they thought I should run. I expected some state house and state senate answers. I was not expecting the Governor of Minnesota would be the highest vote getter, with the senate coming in last! Right behind running for governor, was state house.
While I will not rule out a run for state house in 2026, to work for it now would be disrespectful to Steve. I think we should give him a chance to show us what he can do before challenging him. I don’t want to run just to run either. If I run, it’s because I think I will do a better job of representing you, the people. Let’s give Steve a chance to demonstrate his commitment to us and to Liberty before throwing down the gauntlet!
I had not considered running for governor before, but because of your asks, I am starting to think about what that would take. In 2022, I had two complaints about how Scott Jensen ran his campaign. The first was that his campaign seemed to be focused too much on greater Minnesota, which is admirable, however I believe he should've spent more time in the Cities. The second complaint was his selection of Matt Birk as his running mate. I don’t think Matt added much to his ticket. A running mate should be complimentary, someone who will add what you may be missing. I don’t think Birk did that.
On that note I did a post last week that upset some because I stated what I would be looking for in a running mate if I decided to run. I would want to name a running mate coming out of the gate so both of us could be campaigning and cover twice as much ground. We would not have big dollars backing us so we need to work harder AND smarter!
I specified three things on my wish list for a running mate:
- Someone with credibility and grassroots political experience.
- Someone who resides near the Cities. I am four hours away and I want someone who understands and is familiar with that area and their issues.
- I do not want someone who looks like me–another white male. This is what set people off, accusing me of being “woke.” I would argue that people need to wake up to the political facts on the ground. The GOP does have a white male problem. Voters want to see people like them representing them in government. That doesn’t mean race or sex should be the only criteria, or there should be a “token” person in that role, but it does mean that part of a winning strategy is being aware of that and setting yourself up for success–choosing a running mate that expands on your base, not concentrates on it.
We have many conservatives that span the spectrum of gender and race who would add more value to the ticket than another white male. If you can not see this, then you are perhaps part of the problem, and part of what is holding the GOP back. That type of diversity helps to prevent blind spots and issues we may not see because of our culture or heritage.
One last note…
Last week the DFL violated the state Constitution with their last Omnibus bill of the session where they pretty much threw their wish list on the tax omnibus bill 2 hours before the end of the session. This didn’t allow for debate, and it pushed through on a party line vote without a hard copy or electronic copy of the bill in sight. It was around 3,000 pages and covered several topics. This is where the violation of the state Constitution occurred. At the after-session press conference, when asked why they did it, their answer was basically, “We did what we had to in order to pass our agenda.”
If I was governor, and a GOP house and Senate did this, I would VETO this bill. Right is right and wrong is wrong, no mater what side is doing it. We either stand on the principles and words of our constitutions or we are no better than the other side who does not.
I would love your feedback. I will try to get at least one email out a month throughout the summer months to keep you updated! Thank you all of your continued support. The website will remain active and we are still taking donations to both build the war chest for 2026, and to pay off 2024 debts (we are in the red about $1,500 from this cycle), Any help is appreciated and we do still qualify for the political campaign refund program (yeah, that’s crazy, too).
