Today, we pause to remember every person who has fought for our country and sacrificed their lives for us – each one of them is an American hero who courageously stepped up when duty called.

I’m also thinking of their families, who mourn their losses year after year. I cannot begin to imagine their pain. Where we can, we share their grief and do what we can to provide comfort.

As a military spouse myself, I want to highlight the special place that Delaware’s Dover Air Force Base holds in the hearts of many families. It is through this base that many of our fallen service members are solemnly brought home to be honored.

We must never forget their sacrifices – our fallen soldiers’ memories must endure and guide our decisions. I was called to enter the political arena 20+ years ago to help mentally ill and homeless veterans recover from their traumas and thrive here at home. As a public servant, I work each day to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice by fighting for all of our veterans and military families.

Today, let each of us spend some time reflecting on the sacrifices that others have made for us and dedicate ourselves to giving back.
