Joanna McClinton, Speaker of the House

Dear John,

On Memorial Day, we remember and honor the brave service members who gave their lives in service to our country in the name of our freedom. I hope you will join me in honoring the lives of these courageous Americans today.

Our country was founded under the promise that we are endowed with certain unalienable rights — the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Our service members made the ultimate sacrifice to put these rights and freedoms above their own lives.

While we will never be able to completely repay our debt to the service members who we remember today, we owe it to them and their loved ones to honor them and their selfless sacrifice.

My thoughts are with all the families across our nation who are missing a loved one. I am keeping you close in my heart — today and always.
