John,

A House divided against itself cannot stand. That’s as true today as it was when Lincoln said it.

But with the slow crawl of recessions, inflation, and inadequate government support, that’s exactly what we face right now -- in our country and especially here in California.

We can change that -- together. Ahead of our first critical fundraising deadline, your contribution of $3 will make clear that we’re ready for change that works for all of us.

John, consider the hard numbers:

*Today, the top 1% of Californians held nearly one-third (30.5%) of all income reported - the highest share on record.

*In fact, the top 1% of Californians had 78 times the income of middle-income Californians.

*Only seven other states have wider income gaps than California.

*Black and Latino families make up 55% of families at or below the 10th percentile, while comprising 44% of all families in California.

And that inequality hurts more than the pocketbook – access to decision-makers has been heavily slanted towards those with the biggest checks, which is why:

*California is the fifth largest global economy, yet home to the highest effective rate of poverty in the country.

*Despite the state producing nearly half the nation's fruits and vegetables, one in five Californians are food insecure.

*Housing insecurity and skyrocketing insurance costs are forcing more lifelong Californians out of our state, and leaving more behind among those who continue to call California home.

*And we face a system where foster children and struggling families are the first to face the chopping block when our state’s budget is out of whack.

No healthy state can have such clear haves and have nots. On this current path, accepting the status quo, we cannot be the hub for innovation and beacon of hope that our state has long been.

Our path forward has to come from actively engaging and involving those in our state who live these challenges. It’s pivotal we have leaders who understand that we’re only as strong as our most struggling Californians.

I have the expertise and first-hand experience of the pitfalls that plague our communities from reaching their potential and dreams to lead. I have served by engaging our diverse communities up and down the state. And I deliver results. And with your support, we’ll make California start adding up again for everyone who calls it home.

If you’re with me on this journey, please chip in $3 to my campaign today. As we near the critical June fundraising deadline, any amount is appreciated as we build the momentum we need to bring positive change and growth.
