New Jersey currently has some of the strictest laws in the country for revoking jury service rights from citizens with felony convictions — laws that affect over 500,000 New Jerseyans.
These individuals, who are predominantly Black and Hispanic, are being denied the right to perform a fundamental civic duty, and individuals on trial are being denied the opportunity to be judged by a jury of their peers — undermining the integrity of our democracy, our criminal justice system, and the rule of law.
