Dear John,
Without a doubt, Passover is different this year – especially since so many of
us aren't able to join friends and family around a Seder table as we have in
years past. But our spirit remains strong as we take this time to reflect on the
Jewish people’s journey from oppression to freedom.
We know there’s a lot going on right now, but, as we remember our history, we’re
also keeping in mind the 70 million people who are currently displaced during
this global health crisis. As governments close borders and restrict travel for all of us, life has become
even more difficult for refugees and asylum seekers. For them, the doors were
already closed, and they have no safe place to go. HIAS is quickly adapting to
provide lifesaving support to refugees who face grave risks because of the
coronavirus pandemic.
Just as the Jewish people were once refugees in search of liberation, today
we’re called to support refugees and asylum seekers in their quest for safety
and freedom. So in honor of Passover, we’ve started a drive to raise $100,000 to
provide refugee communities with the critical aid they need. That’s why we’re
asking for your help now:
Please, if you’re able: Make a Passover gift of $18 or
more today – every dollar you give right now helps us support refugees and
asylum seekers during this difficult time.

As we celebrate Passover, we reflect on how our Jewish traditions and culture
have been informed by our people’s experience as refugees. That’s why HIAS is
leading the Jewish response to the global refugee crisis today, working in 16
countries around the world to provide emergency relief, legal assistance,
counseling services and other vital aid to refugees and asylum seekers – who
have left behind everything they know in search of safety and freedom.
Guided by this history, HIAS is fully committed to supporting refugees as they
build new lives free from violence and persecution. Friend: If you are in a position to support this fight, we’re asking for
your help today:
Make a contribution of $18 or more to help us provide
refugees and asylum seekers with the critical resources they need to remain
healthy and safe as they rebuild their lives in freedom.
