UN’s top court orders Israel to immediately halt Rafah offensive
The UN’s top court has ordered Israel to halt its assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah in a ruling that will ratchet up the pressure on the increasingly isolated country. International Court of Justice President Nawaf Salam said the humanitarian situation in Rafah had deteriorated further and was now classified as “disastrous," meaning the ICJ’s previously issued provisional measures were insufficient. The order by the ICJ is not enforceable, and Israeli ministers indicated that they would not comply with it. Israel’s far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, accused the court of being “antisemitic” and, quoting Israel’s first PM, David Ben-Gurion, said on X: “Our future is not dependent on what the gentiles will say but rather what the Jews will do!”

Eight House Democrats are now calling for the radical, right-wing justice and Big Lie enthusiast to be formally rebuked for flying blatantly political and downright seditious flags at multiple residences, all while pretending to be a sober-minded jurist hearing cases directly related to Donald Trump's failed insurrection. The measure stands little chance of reaching the GOP-controlled House floor for a vote, but optics matter and the message is clear. In a statement announcing the resolution, Rep. Steve Cohen said, "Beyond poor judgment, Justice Alito’s misuse of the American flag is a knowing and shameless demonstration of his political bias. He literally flew a flag in front of his house showing the world he supported the January 6th insurrectionists. What’s more, he continues to participate in litigation directly related to the 2020 election and the Insurrection, in direct violation of the federal recusal statute and the Supreme Court’s own ethics rules."

Media Matters hit with more than a dozen layoffs amid conservative "legal assault on multiple fronts"
Liberal, nonprofit watchdog organization Media Matters for America was hit with major layoffs Thursday, and a number of the company's former employees ironically took to X to announce the news. Elon Musk filed a defamation suit against Media Matters back in November following a report accusing X of placing ads for brands next to pro-Hitler and white nationalist accounts. Musk said at the time he’d file a “thermonuclear lawsuit” against the organization. “We’re confronting a legal assault on multiple fronts and given how rapidly the media landscape is shifting, we need to be extremely intentional about how we allocate resources in order to stay effective,” Media Matters President Angelo Carusone said in a statement regarding the layoffs. “Nobody does what Media Matters does. So, we're taking this action now to ensure that we are sustainable, sturdy and successful for whatever lies ahead.”

While we're on the subject of Elon-related layoffs, the alt-right, billionaire tech bozo told attendees at VivaTech 2024 in Paris that artificial intelligence would eventually render almost all jobs obsolete.
