A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
This Memorial Day weekend, I want to reflect on this important day and express my gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who have given their lives in service to our country.
Rhode Island has a rich tradition of military service and a deep respect for our veterans. As your Congressman, I am committed to ensuring that our veterans and their families receive the support and recognition they deserve — whether it's in health care, mental health services, educational opportunities, or job training programs. Especially as we implement the landmark Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, I am devoted to expanding benefits for veterans exposed to toxic substances, including those who were exposed to burn pits while serving our nation in Iraq and Afghanistan. Here in Rhode Island, the PACT Act has broadened eligibility for Veterans Administration health care and provided disability compensation for toxic exposure-related illnesses. Over 2,000 Rhode Island veterans have already received benefits from the PACT Act. As of March 1, 2024, there have been 1,423 First District residents that have submitted claims under the PACT Act. I am laser-focused in making sure that every eligible veteran in the Ocean State can access the full range of benefits in this essential legislation.
This Memorial Day, it is important to support our veterans by reaching out, listening to their stories, and offering thanks. This recognition can make a significant difference in their lives, reminding them that their service will never be forgotten.
In honoring those who have served and sacrificed, we uphold the values they fought to protect: freedom, justice, and equality for all. The legacy of our service members continues to inspire us all as we work towards a brighter future.
Have a safe and meaningful Memorial Day!
Sincerely, |

This week, President Joe Biden announced that over 1 million claims related to the PACT Act have been approved, providing benefits to over 2,000 veterans in Rhode Island.
Since it was enacted in August 2022, this law has expanded benefits for veterans exposed to toxic chemicals like burn pits, ensuring that they receive the care they need and deserve.
With more than 5.4 million veterans screened for toxic exposures and over $5.7 billion in benefits delivered, the PACT Act has delivered on the sacred promise that we owe to our nation’s men and women who served in uniform.

Connecting with Rhode Islanders

Greater Providence YMCA's Safety Around Water Day was held in honor of Tylon Brooks & Joshua Richards, two young Rhode Islanders who tragically drowned.
I was proud to join their families & community members to talk about my work in Congress and how we can help expand access to swim lessons across the Ocean State. |

 |
I was glad to join City of Pawtucket officials, National Park Service rangers, community leaders, and members of local indigenous tribes to speak on my work in Congress as we came together to advocate for migratory fish to return to the Blackstone River — also known as Kittacuck. |
|
 |
I was happy to welcome students from Providence College's PC in DC program to talk about public service and my work in Congress.
The enthusiasm and passion for public service in our next generation of leaders is truly inspiring! Go Friars! |

Working to Save Social Security
Congressman Amo speaks on the floor of the House of Representatives in support of saving Social Security
Last week, I called out a proposed backward budget that would slash Social Security and Medicare for our nation’s seniors. If enacted, 3 in 4 Rhode Islanders would be forced to work longer for less.
I am proud to stand with my colleague, Representative John Larson of Connecticut, as we advocate for the Social Security 2100 Act, which would expand and strengthen Social Security by ensuring that the wealthiest Americans play by the same rules and pay their fair share.
