Find out how you can help this ‘Report It’ week
Hello John,
Today marks the start of ‘Report It’ Week, an initiative launched by the Social Media Animal Cruelty Coalition to highlight ways members of the public can speak out about animal abuse and exploitation.
Sadly, the abuse and exploitation of animals is widespread, and millions suffer as a result. But you can help end their suffering by reporting what you see.
REPORT IT TODAY
ANIMAL CRUELTY ON SOCIAL MEDIA
There is a huge amount of animal cruelty posted online, particularly on social media, and sometimes this may end up showing in your social feeds, even though you don’t want it to.
If you see photos or videos of animals being abused on social media, you can submit a report via the Social Media Animal Cruelty Coalition (which Born Free is a member of) so they can work to crack down on this content.

SEEING CAPTIVE ANIMAL EXPLOITATION IN PERSON
Since 2000, Born Free has encouraged everyone to flag their concerns for wild animals in captivity, and we have now received more than 17,200 reports. In 2019, we launched ‘Raise The Red Flag’ – a platform where our supporters can report the exploitation of captive wild animals around the world.
Our Red Flag map has helped countless fellow supporters boycott attractions where animals are suffering.
Your reports help us provide vital evidence to support our advocacy efforts to secure policy change and effective legislation in order to end exploitation and improve animal welfare.
So, if you see an animal suffering in captivity, anywhere in the world, please submit your eyewitness report, with as much photo and video evidence as you have.
SUBMIT A RED FLAG REPORT
Although speaking up against the exploitation of animals can be intimidating, especially when it’s at a well-known facility or somewhere with a ‘good’ reputation, and it may feel like one person’s voice won’t make a difference – we promise you it really does!
As well as submitting your reports to us, it’s important to contact captive facilities and travel companies directly too – they often say ‘they never receive any complaints’, but as the people with the power to take action and directly improve the lives of wild animals in captivity, speaking out matters.
Please visit our Speak Out hub which links to our take action guidance pages, providing information on who to contact and useful links to help find their contact details.
