Dear Friend,

Happy Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month!

This week in our AAPI Leader Profile series, we’re celebrating Massachusetts State Representative, Tram Nguyen!

Tram Nguyen was elected in 2018 to represent District 18 in the Massachusetts State House of Representatives. Upon her victory, she became the first Vietnamese American woman to be elected to office in Massachusetts

Since being elected, Nguyen has focused her work on the needs of marginalized communities in her state.

  • She has fought to pass legislation that would strengthen nondiscrimination laws, impose harsher penalties for hate crimes, and support survivors of sexual assault.

  • As a former attorney who represented survivors of domestic violence and assault, Rep. Nguyen is using her political platform to ensure victims can achieve justice under the law.

  • She has sponsored a bill that would promote a more racially and culturally inclusive curriculum in grades K-12.

Rep. Nguyen understands the importance of promoting inclusivity and fighting discrimination. While extremists are banning books and limiting students' education in schools nationwide, Nguyen is part of a movement of young progressive leaders fighting to expand educational opportunities and make sure everyone is represented.

Changemakers like Tram Nguyen prove that we cannot overlook the elections happening at the state and local level this year. Local elections are pivotal to seeing progressive change in our schools and communities. Friend, it is more important than ever that supporters like you use your voice and your vote to uplift young, progressive changemakers at the ballot box!

In solidarity,

Future Coalition
