Dear John,
This can't wait – even for a general election.
Next month we’re taking the UK government to court again. This time for putting lives and human rights at risk. And we need you by our side.
We’ll argue that the government has failed to prepare for the impacts of the climate emergency. People’s lives are already being ruined as a result, and all our futures are at risk.
We believe the government’s failures violate human rights and breach the laws set out in the Climate Change Act. We only had one option left. So together with your help, we're taking the government to court. And try to set the next government on the right course – whoever wins this election.
So today I’m writing to ask for your help. We need the whole Friends of the Earth community to unite and protect our future from climate catastrophe. Please will you donate today, John?
We’re so grateful for all the support you already give us. But legal challenges like this can be long and difficult. So anything you can donate to boost our fight would be amazing.

A credible national climate adaptation plan should set out how communities will be protected from threats like extreme heat, flooding, sea level rise and coastal erosion. But even the government’s own advisory body for climate change has said the UK is unprepared.
We’re taking legal action alongside two co-claimants, Doug Paulley and Kevin Jordan.
Doug lives with long-term conditions that affect his health when temperatures rise. He lives in a care home, and he’s had several strokes because of his heat-related conditions.
Doug had to stay indoors during the 2022 heatwave, when searing UK temperatures topped 40ºC for the first time. And as it gets hotter it'll become even more difficult for Doug and many others with complex health needs to cope.
Kevin bought his home in Norfolk because he was told it was safe from coastal erosion and sea level rise for a century. Then last December his worst nightmare came true. After a storm battered the coast, Kevin received shattering news from his local council. His home was no longer safe from the elements, and it was demolished. Over Christmas.
Our legal team are working hard to build the strongest possible case. Now we need you to complete our team.
Together let’s make the government keep us safe from the devastating impacts of the climate crisis. No matter who's in charge after the general election. Your support today will mean you’ll be with us at every stage.
I'LL DONATE TO PROTECT OUR FUTURE ( [link removed] )
We know taking legal action works. Thanks to many thousands of you supporting us, a few weeks ago we won a landmark case against the government. The High Court ruled with us that the UK’s climate plan for slashing greenhouse gas emissions was unlawful. With you by our side, we can win again.
We’ll continue fighting to cut emissions and stop climate breakdown. But this case is urgent because the government must do more to prepare for climate impacts it’s now too late to stop.
You can rely on us to hold ministers to account – at the High Court, through our campaigns and by galvanising communities to take action. But we can’t fight on all these fronts without your help.
On that note, one of my colleagues will be in touch next week with info about ways to be a friend of the earth during this momentous election. We'd love it if you can get involved.
Thank you so much for your support,
Will Rundle
