This is a simple threat to understand, John: Donald Trump has already appointed three SCOTUS justices (all under the age of 60) and if he wins another term he'll have a shot to appoint at least two more.
Clarence Thomas, 74, was appointed in 1991 by George H.W. Bush. Samuel Alito, 72, was appointed in 2006 by George W. Bush. Both are deeply conservative, and both would definitely retire in order to ensure a Republican president could replace them.
That would give us five Supreme Court justices -- a majority in and of itself -- appointed by Donald Trump. Those Trump judges could control our courts for the next twenty or more years.
It's also worth noting that Sonia Sotomayor is 68 and Chief Justice John Roberts is 67. Being realistic, both are above retirement age, and health concerns could be an issue that leads one or both to step down as well.
Putting all other issues aside -- the Supreme Court balance alone is worth beating Trump before our judicial landscape is dominated by his nominees for another generation or more.
We can't let that happen, John, pure and simple. Pitch in $25 or whatever you can right now to defeat Trump and defend the Senate majority that will give us the quality judges we deserve >>>
