Budget and financial experience is essential to making sure things are adding up for Californians.

John,

In a minute, I'm going to ask you to chip in $3 to support my campaign for Governor. But first, I want to share a bit about my background as State Controller, and how it makes me uniquely fit to be the next Governor of California.

Many don’t know this, but I am the only candidate in the race with hands-on experience managing California’s finances.

I am proud of the work my team and I did during my eight years in office, including uncovering $7.3 billion in improper spending and balancing our cash so we didn't have to borrow externally to pay the state’s bills. We also preserved the retirement security of 3 million Californians by keeping pension funds stable.

This work isn’t flashy, and it rarely makes headlines. But it’s often this work that decides if a family can afford to put food on the table or a teacher can retire with dignity.

Between the affordability crisis, insurance companies fleeing the state, and a likely protracted budget deficit – Californians have very real questions about what the coming years will bring for our state. Efficient, accountable spending lessens the strain on Californians’ pocketbooks. That’s the kind of government we deserve.

It is crucial that our next Governor knows the ins and outs of our state budget and finances, and I have the experience to use our funds wisely and with an eye toward real progress. Chip in $3to support my campaign to bring deep financial know-how to the Governor’s office.
