In 2022, nearly 108,000 people died from overdoses, and over 48 million people had substance use disorder. Too few receive the treatment and services they need.
The issue: Our current approach to the addiction crisis is clearly insufficient, as the crisis continues to grow and deaths continue to reach record-high levels.
How we can help: We urgently need a more comprehensive response and financial investment that treats addiction like the public health crisis it is. The Comprehensive Addiction Resources Emergency (CARE) Act would:
- Provide state and local governments with $125 billion in federal funding over 10 years to support a public health response to the crisis, including nearly $1 billion per year directly to tribal governments and organizations.
Take action: Send a letter to your members of Congress to encourage them to support the CARE Act to provide a new, comprehensive approach to the addiction crisis that more appropriately matches the scope of the emergency.
