Are you feeling the heat, John?

No, seriously, are you feeling the heat? Because it’s not just you… the climate crisis is not a distant threat anymore. It's here, and it's getting worse by the day. Record-breaking ocean and surface temperatures, devastating wildfires, frequent and severe weather events — all the result of our government’s refusal to take bold action addressing the climate crisis.

This crisis is costing the US over $150 billion a year. The food supply chain is in peril, health systems are strained, and millions of people could be displaced in the coming years.

We are not writing this email to scare you, John, but we are here to remind you that the window to act is closing.

We need you to implore President Biden to take action by declaring a climate emergency under the National Emergencies Act. [[link removed]] This action would help:

* Reinstate the crude oil export ban
* End new fossil fuel projects and drilling
* Redirect disaster relief funds toward renewable energy in frontline communities
* Fast-track renewable transportation and clean power generation
* Create millions of high-quality union jobs

Don’t get us wrong: We made significant progress with the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, but our elected officials must legislate BOLDER and set policy that reflects the true severity of this emergency. It’s what the science demands.

Declaring a climate emergency will empower us to deny new fossil fuel projects, mandate a phase-out of fossil fuel production on federal lands and waters, and invest in a just transition that protects frontline communities.
