Dear John
As you know we are supporting the Pesticide Collaboration’s new campaign calling for a national ban on the use of pesticides in urban areas.
We recently asked you to email your councillors ([link removed]) on this issue. We are happy to report that we already have over 100 councillors now signed on to our letter to the UK Government, demonstrating that there is widespread support from local authorities for a national ban.
As the campaign ramps up, we are working with parliamentarians to make sure this is on the political agenda in Westminster. Last night, Caroline Lucas MP and a cross-party group of supporters tabled an Early Day Motion in parliament, calling for a phase-out of the use of pesticides in our villages, towns and cities.
You can read the motion here. ([link removed])
Early Day Motions (EDMs) are used by MPs in the House of Commons to draw attention to a particular issue, event or campaign. Other MPs can show their support for an EDM by adding their own signature to it.
It is therefore crucial that MPs hear about this motion and sign on to it ([link removed]) . ([link removed]) We know that there is support for a national ban on urban pesticides in parliament, and we need to have as many MPs as possible publicly pledging their support.
This is a vital next step in building on the incredible work of the Pesticide-Free Towns campaigners.
Will you write to your MP to ask them to support this motion? ([link removed]) Thank you.

In other news, you may also enjoy reading a series of blog posts ([link removed]) by Atalo Belay of PAN Ethiopia, as he reflects on the ups, downs, failures and successes of an incredible ten-year journey supporting Ethiopian cotton farmers to move away from using hazardous pesticides.
And, as always, if you feel able to support our work with a donation we would greatly appreciate it.
