John, I want to tell you a little bit about why I’m running for Governor of North Carolina and why this work matters so much to me.
 Growing up, my parents impressed upon my brother, sister, and me that we had a duty to leave this world better than we found it. They lived by that principle themselves. My dad was a civil rights lawyer, a founding partner in North Carolina’s first integrated law firm. My mom was always extremely active in our community, working hard to make it better. They instilled in me a commitment for public service — and deep love for the place we call home: North Carolina.  As a North Carolinian, I’ve spent my life watching basketball (go Heels!), eating barbeque, and traveling to our beautiful mountains and beaches. My wife, Anna, and I raised our three kids here. They all attended NC public schools — just like Anna and I did.  I want your children and mine to have the opportunity to build their lives and futures in this state. But Mark Robinson’s far-right agenda is threatening that opportunity. He doesn’t represent North Carolina’s values. He wants to strip our public schools of their funding, enact a total ban on abortion, and dismantle our voting rights. I need you on board to defeat Mark Robinson and protect North Carolina’s future.
