John,

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week and today marks Teachers’ Appreciation Day.

To our educators across the country: thank you for your commitment to the safety and education of your students.

Today we thought we’d talk about what teachers would really appreciate and *spoiler alert* it’s not being armed with guns. But that’s exactly what’s happening in states like Tennessee and Iowa.

Both these states just adopted laws that allow teachers to carry guns in schools. This is NOT a solution to school shootings or the pervasive gun problem that we have in this country.

These laws don’t make teachers, students, or families any safer. It puts them in MORE danger.

Teachers are already expected to carry the high burden of raising the next generation — oftentimes with low pay, few resources, and little thanks. What if instead of arming our teachers with guns, we armed them with the resources they need to help our kids thrive?

Teachers and students shouldn’t have to worry about gun violence in their classrooms. We’re fighting to make that a reality.

Chip in anything you can today, and help us honor our teachers by fighting for a better future safe from gun violence.
