Andrews Distributing sponsors meals for furloughed workers
Andrews Distributing in Texas is sponsoring all of this week’s meals through Furlough Kitchen. Furlough Kitchen is a Dallas-based effort providing free meals to local furloughed hospitality workers. “The mission of Furlough Kitchen really spoke to us as a family and as a company, because the individuals that Furlough Kitchen serves are the very same people that Andrews serves – our friends and customers in the restaurant and hospitality industry. We want the entire hospitality industry to know that your extended Andrews family is here for you,” said Mike McGuire, president and CEO of Andrews Distributing.
Beer distributors adapting and carrying on to help the industry
“All three tiers of the distribution system are rattled,” says Laurelwood Brewing’s brand manager Andy Schaefer. Without the middle tier, the structure falls apart, so beer distributors across the country have been working to adapt so they can keep the industry going during the pandemic. “Although the closing of bars and restaurants has had a dramatic impact on our business we still have retail customers and supplier partners who are relying on us to continue to sell, deliver and service accounts for beer, cider and wine products” says Peter Maletis of Maletis Beverage in Oregon.
Watch NBWA President & CEO Craig Purser, along with other beer industry leaders, in last week’s virtual Brew Talk. They discussed how the industry has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and how they are working to navigate during this unprecedented time.
This piece from Inside Hook explores why they think the show “Cheers” might be worth re-watching right now, when we all wish we could head to a place to have a drink with friends. The nostalgia of the show and strong friendships can be comforting during times of crisis and social distancing.
