John,

I want to start this Logan Lineup a little differently, because some issues transcend partisan politics.

Six decades ago, segregationist politicians attempted to bar students who resembled me from educational institutions based solely on the color of their skin.

Today, in 2024, it's unthinkable that in the United States, students are fearful of attending school due to their religious beliefs. Yet, this is the harsh reality that Jewish Americans face at this very moment.

We cannot turn a blind eye to the plight of Jewish students, faculty, and staff facing ongoing hateful and violent acts on campuses throughout our country.

As we enter May, let us acknowledge that it is Jewish American Heritage Month. It's a time to recognize the invaluable contributions of the Jewish community to our nation's fabric.

However, it's also a time to confront the stark truth: Jewish individuals across America and worldwide endure persecution, violence, harassment, and discrimination.

Our solidarity cannot be confined to a single month, John. As proud Americans, it's imperative that we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our Jewish brothers and sisters.

We must be unwavering allies to Israel, steadfast partners with the Jewish community, and resolute opponents of the alarming rise in antisemitism plaguing our nation, especially within our educational institutions.

Regrettably, it appears that some in Washington are willing to forsake Jewish students for political expediency. But let me be unequivocal: Now is not the time for political maneuvering. No student should ever fear attending school because of their faith.

This is not just intimidation. This is not mere harassment. This is wholly unacceptable. This must end, and it must end now. Antisemitism has no place in America.

"...at Columbia and Yale, student demonstrators told Jewish students to “go back to Poland.” A Jewish woman at Yale was assaulted with a Palestinian flag. And an Orthodox rabbi at Columbia told students to go home for their safety.

Demonstrators on these campuses shouted: 'Say it loud and say it clear, we don’t want no Zionists here.' In one chant at Columbia, the protesters were heard saying 'Go Hamas, we love you. We support your rockets, too.' and 'We say justice, you say how? Burn Tel Aviv to the ground.'

Since the very founding of America, this country has been a unique place for the Jewish people. That is because of America’s exceptional ideals and our willingness to defend them.

But in the past six months these core American beliefs, once deemed immutable, have been challenged in ways that were previously unimaginable, as a rising wave of antisemitism and illiberalism have swept the country—a wave that was put on full display over the last few days, at the country’s most elite and prestigious universities."

"Hayes just voted against denouncing the Biden administration’s immigration policies.

Of course, this isn’t a surprise. Hayes has a very anti-border security past, she has already voted against securing the border.

'When people show you who they are, believe them. Jahana Hayes has shown us that she is a raging anti-border security extremist who refuses to do anything to address the Biden Border Crisis.' – NRCC Spokeswoman Savannah Viar"

"HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — State lawmakers passed a wide-ranging climate bill that would introduce new incentives for businesses and individuals to adopt clean energy technologies.

'This bill is full of incentives,' Rep. Christine Palm (D-District 36) said. 'Tax credits, waivers, business fee waivers for B Corps — that’s benefit corps — those that pivot to sustainability.'

Republicans raised objections to those incentives.

'There’s a lot of incentives for people to switch to green — who’s gonna pay for them?' Rep. Pat Callahan (R-District 108), the ranking House Republican on the environment committee.

House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora (District 86) reiterated those affordability concerns.

'You know, time and again we continue to see electric costs increasing,' he said. 'A lot of it is driven from this green agenda.'"

"New York Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman, both members of "The Squad," were seen Friday mingling with anti-Israel agitators at Columbia University, where "support" was offered to those in the encampment established to protest the Israeli military's actions in Gaza.

A smiling Ocasio-Cortez showed up in videos speaking to denizens of the encampment, and Bowman was seen cheerfully chatting with the demonstrators. Bowman also reportedly attended a Thursday evening Biden campaign fundraiser in Westchester County.

The visits by Ocasio-Cortez and Bowman to Columbia's campus in New York City came one day after Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar traveled to the school with her daughter (who was arrested a week ago for trespassing as part of the demonstrations) to show her support for the protest of Israel's war against Hamas."

"WASHINGTON, May 1 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced the approval of more than $6.1 billion in student loan debt relief for nearly 317,000 borrowers who were enrolled at any Art Institute campus from January 2004 until October 2017.

The Art Institutes was a private-for-profit system of art schools in the United States that faced a host of legal issues and closed last September.

The Education Department found that The Art Institutes and its parent company, Education Management Corporation, made 'pervasive and substantial misrepresentations to prospective students about postgraduation employment rates, salaries, and career services during that time.'"

"The leader of Shiraz University in Iran praises anti-Israel agitators at US and European campuses, offers scholarships to expelled students...over anti-Israel protests broiling with antisemitism.

Mohammad Moazzeni, who runs Shiraz University in the Fars province, made the announcement at a gathering of students meant to show 'solidarity' with anti-Israel agitators in the West on Wednesday.

Of the police response to the encampment demonstrations, he said, '[T]hey exert a lot of violence in order to contain this raging movement and have even threatened to expel the students from universities and hinder their employment in the future, and such autocratic methods show the decline of global arrogance,' according to Irainian state-owned outlet Press TV. 'Students and even professors who have been expelled or threatened with expulsion can continue their studies at Shiraz University and I think that other universities in Shiraz as well as Fars Province are also prepared [to provide the conditions].'"
