The Necessity of Trauma-Informed Care in Reproductive Health

In the April Perinatal Mental Health And Well-Being issue, Angelica Al Janabi documents her experience navigating pregnancy and birth as a person with a history of trauma.

Al Janabi argues for the expansion of trauma-informed care throughout medicine, and especially in reproductive and perinatal care.

She also calls for appropriate follow-up after birth and “increased funding and support designated for research, prevention, early detection, and treatment related to trauma’s effects on reproductive physical and mental health.”
