"ON THE ROAD WITH TONY..."

Welcome to our April newsletter!

This month, we celebrate all the young adults in Macomb County!  These fine men and women are the future of the County!

We recently offered a NextGen "Coffee With the County Clerk" event in conjunction with the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce.  NextGen features the "Young Professionals of Macomb County."

This event was followed the next day with "Bring Your Child to Work Day," which featured 6th to 12th-graders visiting our Elections Department, where they participated in tabulated 'Election."

We attended the grand opening of Dutton Farm in Sterling Heights. This fine organization supports adults with disabilities to “live a life of purpose, inclusion and dignity.” At this event we met some of the finest young adults in the County.

Please remember that an election will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 for voters in *Clintondale Community Schools, L’Anse Creuse Public Schools, and New Haven Community Schools*. See the article below for more information.

"NextGen "Coffee With the County Clerk""

Clerk Forlini hosted a NextGen "Coffee with the County Clerk" event at the Clerk's office Elections Department. The event was also sponsored by the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce.  NextGen features the "Young Professionals of Macomb County."

NextGen is an advocate agency of young people, engaging in direct action, electoral education and voter mobilization.

""Bring Your Child to Work" Visits Elections"

The Clerk's Office participated in the County's recent "Bring Your Child to Work Day," also at the Election Department. The program features 6th to 12th-graders who experienced what working for a day in Macomb County could look like and learn about the wide variety of careers available.

Clerk Forlini and Chief Elections Clerk Michael Grix explained the Election process and even let the students participate in a tabulated simulated election.

Students not only experienced the election process, but learned how to vote a ballot and how to correctly place the ballot in an actual tabulator.

Clerk Forlini also provided a broad overview of the entire Clerk's Office operation, including the Courts, process of Jury Duty, Vital Records an Register of Deeds.

"Grand Opening of Dutton Farm"

Clerk Forlini attended the grand opening of Dutton Farm in Sterling Heights. The organization supports adults with disabilities to “live a life of purpose, inclusion and dignity.” Clerk Forlilni had fun sharing the mic with Scott from Dutton Farm.

Clerk Forlini also reminded the crowd about the Michigan Able Act, which he wrote when he was a State Legislator. The law allows people with disabilities onset before age 26 to have special savings accounts for disability-related expenses without losing eligibility for SSI, Medicaid, and certain other public benefits.

This law was important because it teaches the value of self-sufficiency and not just depend on government assistance.

"Springtime Means Wedding Season
for Macomb County Clerk's Office"

Now that it is officially Spring, the Macomb County Clerk's Office will see a considerable jump in marriage applications.

Clerk Forlini has made it easy for prospective wedding couples to fill out and file their marriage applications and encourages all applicants to use the convenient on-line form to enter all their information before they visit the Clerk's Office. This will save time and ensure that all the required info is submitted.

When applying in Macomb County, at least one applicant needs to be a Macomb County resident with proof of residency (current driver's license or State ID). After the online form is submitted, couples can then make an appointment to visit the Clerk's office by clicking on this link.

During the appointment, only one applicant needs to be present (but that applicant must be a Macomb County resident). A completed affidavit will be waiting for the applicants, and the affidavit will be notarized at that time. Then payment can be made and the couple will receive two copies of their marriage license.

A couple of tips: Applicants must make sure they apply 33 days or less before their wedding date. There is a three-day waiting period from date of application, but applicants can waive the three-day waiting period by paying a $10 waiver fee. Also, when filling out the online application, it is best to have copies of the applicants' birth records to help identify required information (like birthplaces of parents).

"*Dozens line up to run in 2024
elections in Macomb County*"

Some 237 people signed up as candidates for local, county, state and federal office on Tuesday and have until the end of the week to withdraw.

That’s the word from the elections department of the Macomb County Clerk’s Office who are in charge of keeping track of the candidates for Congress, state Legislature, Macomb County Board of Commissioners, and township boards in 2024.

*County Clerk and Register of Deeds Anthony Forlini said the amount of people filing to run this year is impressive. He recalled he first ran for Harrison Township supervisor after establishing his career in financial management.*

*“I got into politics to give back to the community,” said Forlini, who also served as a state representative. “My hope is the individuals who filed have that in mind and in the spirit of what they are trying to do, taking the skills they learned in the private sector and using those for the public good.”*

"May 7, 2024 Election"

An election will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 for voters in *Clintondale Community Schools, L’Anse Creuse Public Schools, and New Haven Community Schools.* Polls are open from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.

A list of the proposals appearing on the ballot can be found at: [link removed]

Voters who wish to receive an absent voter ballot by mail must submit an application to their city or township clerk’s office no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Voters may vote an absentee ballot in person at their city or township clerk’s office until 4 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024.

In addition to election day and absentee voting, Harrison Township and Macomb Township will offer 9 days of early voting. The first day being Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Your local clerk’s offices will be open for 8 hours on the Saturday and/or Sunday prior to Election Day for the issuance of absent voter ballots. Check [link removed] for your clerk’s specific hours.

Voters who are not registered to vote at their current address may register at their local clerk’s office through Election Day to be eligible to vote in the upcoming election.

Voter registration forms received by other means (SOS branch office, county clerk’s office, by mail, or online at [link removed]) will still be processed, but applicants won’t be eligible to vote in the upcoming election unless you verify your residency with your local clerk’s office.
