Dear John,

This week, we have seen a deeply troubling surge of antisemitism on college campuses across America. I want to be very clear about where I stand on this issue. I stand with Israel and with Jewish people around the world. I condemn the pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic hatred we are witnessing. I call on all university officials to take action to ensure the safety of Jewish students on their campuses.

In Congress, I'm launching a new bipartisan Caucus to advocate for policies that will support our young people and ensure they can achieve the American Dream, I'm working to get answers about the rampant fraud in the federal student aid program, and I have been appointed to three key Ways and Means Committee tax teams to preserve critical reforms and reduce the tax burden on hardworking Americans.

Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my FacebookInstagram, and X to get these updates in real-time.

Stopping Student Aid Fraud

With over $5 million fraudulently paid to individuals enrolled at colleges in California since 2021, it is abundantly clear that the federal student aid program is subject to rampant fraud. The Department of Education owes the American people answers.

That's why I joined Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) in writing to Department of Education Inspector General Sandra Bruce raising concerns about considerable fraud within the federal student financial aid system. Fraud is unacceptable, and the Department takes all necessary steps to increase fraud detection and preventative measures.

We have requested answers from the Department on what it is doing to combat this problem, and will continue to provide oversight of the student aid program.

My team attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Arovista Modernization Project in Brea. I'm glad we were able to secure $2M for this project to make the park more accessible to community members of all ages!

Promoting Opportunities for Youth

Image

Education and work are essential elements of achieving the American Dream, and the skyrocketing numbers of Opportunity Youth in the days since the pandemic are cause for concern. Opportunity Youth are people aged 16-24 who are disconnected from school and work or are at-risk of experiencing disconnection.

The numbers of OY have increased drastically in the past few years. The good news is that there are lots of proposals working their way through Congress that will preserve existing critical programs and create new tools to reconnect youth to education and employment. I’m partnering with Rep. Troy A. Carter Sr. (D-LA) to launch the Bipartisan Opportunity Youth Caucus so we can better advance those priorities in Congress.

Students, You're Invited

For students considering their next steps after high school, the Military Service Academies present an exciting opportunity to receive a world-class education and unmatched leadership skills, paid for by the U.S. Military. The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

My team will be hosting an information night for interested applicants. Representatives from the U.S. Military Naval, Air Force, Merchant Marine, and Coast Guard Academies will be present to answer your questions about what it means to attend one of these institutions.
