If our country fails to immediately protect our health care workers, we will fail to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. That is a grim, but entirely possible outcome.
Sign the petition to get our frontline health workers the protection they need to fight this pandemic.
While many of us are observing physical distancing measures to slow down the spread of COVID-19, nurses, doctors and other frontline healthcare workers are confronting the pandemic head-on every time they clock in for a shift. Some of us know them because they are our friends, family, neighbors, etc. Some of us may not know healthcare workers, but may need to rely on them to treat us or people we know or love.
What’s terrifying is that across the United States, our health care workforce does not have the ‘personal protective equipment’ (PPE) it needs to safely care for patients without risking exposure to the virus. As a result, health care workers are at risk of illness and death, which puts our entire health care system at risk of collapse. When health care workers are exposed to the virus, they risk transmitting the virus to their families, patients, and communities. What this pandemic has revealed is how much our individual fates are tied to the fate, health and wellbeing of others.
Yet, we are hearing reports from nurses and doctors who are advised by hospital administrators to wear bandanas as face coverings, and have resorted to wearing garbage bags as protective coverings. This is absolutely unacceptable and has already resulted in healthcare worker deaths.
President Trump knows he has the authority to deliver immediate solutions to this crisis, but hasn’t invoked his powers yet. He needs to hear from you!
We need you, and as many people as possible, to call on President Trump to fully invoke the presidential authorities granted in the Defense Production Act to increase the supply of necessary personal protective equipment for health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nurses, doctors and frontline healthcare workers need:
...and lots of other equipment to keep us all safe, and to heal our communities through this crisis. But we need President Trump to take action now!
