Folks, As the coronavirus continues to spread, so many families are facing uncertainty. Whether it’s losing a job or a paycheck, becoming ill, or unable to find basic necessities like food, soap, and even toilet paper -- it can all be overwhelming. But I’ve found hope in the stories I’ve seen about communities uplifting one another and lending a helping hand to those who need it most. While these are difficult times, I’m confident that we will get through them -- together. That’s why I’m directing my attention to the Allen Temple Health & Social Services in Oakland, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. This faith community used to provide hot meals for folks living with HIV/AIDS on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday before California’s shelter-in-place rules were announced. Their Mercy Brown Bag program delivered meals to needy seniors and their bi-monthly food pantry is now a bi-weekly program. Now, they need our help to raise the necessary funds to resume these programs. It’s on us to take care of those around us -- including our neighbors, friends, family, and loved ones, so I’m turning to you: If you’d like to give via text, please send a text to 510-737-0078 with the numerical dollar amount (ie. $15). If you’d like to give by mail, make out your check to ‘Allen Temple Health & Social Services’ and send it to 8501 International Boulevard, Oakland CA 94621. Thank you so much for anything you’re able to give. Your donation will make a huge impact on people’s everyday lives here in Oakland. But I know this is a hard time for so many families, so please only give if you can afford to do so. In solidarity, Barbara Lee |
