John,
Cori Bush is running for office as a primary challenger in Missouri’s 1st district.
As a single mother, a registered nurse, an ordained pastor, and an organizer fighting police brutality, Cori Bush has lived a life of service to her community.
Unfortunately, Cori has been hospitalized twice in the last week with symptoms that include shortness of breath, a sore throat, loss of taste, and headaches. And what makes this even more difficult is that Cori doesn’t have health insurance right now, she gave that up when she decided to run for Congress.
Not having Medicare for All and being forced to live without health insurance is one way that our political system stops progressive primary challengers from even running for office. Our system is designed to protect incumbents and not encourage working-class folks to even run.
Challenging an entrenched incumbent is tough and we’ve seen this year how close these elections can be. It could come down to just a handful of votes. That’s why we’re asking you today:
The issues and policies she’s running on are personal to her. She marched in the streets of Ferguson to protest the murder of Michael Brown. As a registered nurse, Cori has seen firsthand the impacts of having a for-profit healthcare system that price gouges and serves corporate CEOs.
We know that Cori can win in August. Cori understands our struggles because she’s one of us. She knows what it’s like to be terrified to receive medical treatment because the cost could be thousands of dollars.
Together we can elect another transformative leader who will join the Squad in Congress and fight for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and ending our systems of mass incarceration and deportation. But, the only way we’re going to elect Cori is with your support.
We are in a fight for the soul of the Democratic Party and we’re proud to have you on our side.
Thank you for your support,
Justice Democrats
